WINGER ENDED DROUGHT OF MORE THAN TWO YEARS BY SCORING IN CUP WIN AT STOKE

MARC Albrighton has scored his first Leicester City goal of Brendan Rodgers’ reign – and now his manager wants more.

By netting the second of City’s four in their FA Cup win at Stoke, Albrighton ended a goal drought of more than two years – his name was last on the scoresheet in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Boxing Day 2018.

His cool finish at the bet365 Stadium came just a few days after Rodgers told Albrighton he needed to chip in with more.

While satisfied the 31-yearold, below, is now off the mark, Rodgers wants him to add even more to his tally.

And he believes he has the attributes to do so.

“He’s very honest in the game,” said Rodgers. “He’s an incredible professional.

He prepares himself well every time he comes in.

“He has that intensity that I like in a player. He’s mentally tough. Funnily enough, I was speaking to him a couple of days ago and saying he has to score more goals.

“He always the guy who is creating and assisting them, but if he gets himself more towards the goal and in the box, he will score because he’s technically very good. “It was a great run to meet the pass from Youri (Tielemans) and then he’s come inside and finished it very well.

“So it’s something he can do more of and hopefully there will be more goals to come.”

The statistic that Rodgers will be impressed by is City’s win ratio when Albrighton starts. Eight of the 12 games the winger has started have ended in victory, with only Timothy Castagne possessing a better record.
