Family firm in the face of adversity

-

THE Jarvis family have had a tougher pandemic than most.

Dad Wayne, 53, and son, Danny, 25, lost their jobs, Wayne caught Covid-19 and Danny was forced to cancel his wedding three times.

Wayne’s wife, Charmaine, said: “My husband worked in the exhibitions business, but when coronavirus hit, many of these centres were turned into Nightingale hospitals. Pretty much instantly, his work was finished.

“My son Danny worked for a campervan conversion company and when they were locked down he was let go, too.”

Wayne and Danny, qualified carpenters and joiners, decided to start a campervan conversion business, The Dub Hub, which they run from their home in Aylestone.

However, Wayne caught coronavirus in the middle of setting up the business.

Charmaine said: “He was very ill for over three weeks and had to go to hospital. Fortunately he didn’t need to stay, but X-rays showed he had it on his lungs.”

Luckily, no one else in the family caught the virus and Wayne made a full recovery, which meant he was able to return to setting up the business with Danny.

Danny, meanwhile, was trying to sort out his wedding. Charmaine said: “They were due to get married in the Caribbean. In the end, it was cancelled three times.”

Danny and Rebecca, 24, eventually managed to get down the aisle on December 14.

The Dub Hub is now up and running. Charmaine said: “It really is a family business, I do the books and the boys are working really hard.

“I am nervous about the financials, as we have thrown our life savings into it. But it’s very exciting.”
