Earn £250 and help drive study forwards

- Idreams@lboro.ac.uk

SCIENTISTS working on a new road safety product are looking for drivers who want to earn £250 by simply driving just as they normally would.

The Loughborough University researchers need local volunteers who are happy to have a few sensors attached to their car and to drive wearing a sensor in a wristband.

The i-Dreams project involves perfecting technology designed to make driving safer by alerting people to dangers. People taking part in the research will have equipment installed in their cars to monitor factors which can lead to hazardous situations, such as fatigue, sleepiness or distraction.

Real-time warnings will alert drivers if they go outside the safe operation zone – such as veering out of their lane – and post-trip feedback will give drivers better insight into their own behaviour and will help improve driving performance.

The project is in the second phase and now needs volunteers to take part in testing the technology.

Researchers in the Transport Safety Research Centre at the university are looking for people who: Are over the age of 18; Hold a full UK driving licence; Live within an hour of Loughborough; Travel an average of 6,000 miles a year; Own a mobile phone with an Android operating system (not an iPhone); Have access to a car with fully comprehensive insurance.

Participants will receive £250 if they complete the trial.

Due to the restrictions in place, a start date has not yet been agreed but the team is looking for people to volunteer now.
