Shop worker threatened with knife in robbery
CASH’ STOLEN
A SUPERMARKET worker was threatened at knife-point during a robbery at a store in South Wigston.
Two men had entered the Co-op supermarket, in Blaby Road, on Monday night, before approaching the employee and demanding they hand over the shop’s takings.
No-one was injured in the incident, however, a “quantity of cash” was stolen in the raid.
Detectives have issued an appeal for the public’s help to identify and trace those responsible.
A police spokesperson said: “It was reported that at around 9.25pm two men entered a supermarket on Blaby Road, threatened a member of staff with a knife and demanded cash.
“A quantity of cash was stolen and no injuries were reported. A witness then saw two men leave the supermarket and run along Fairfield Street.”
The shop worker managed to provide investigators with a description of the robbers.
Both men were described as wearing dark clothing and masks.
One of the men is described as about 5ft 9in with a chubby build. He was wearing sunglasses.
The other man was seen wearing a Stone Island jacket with a distinctive fur-trimmed hood.
Detective Constable Jason Day said: “We are carrying out investigations to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen these men, or anyone who may have captured them on dashcam footage.”
Central England Co-Operative said: “We can confirm that an armed robbery took place at our Blaby Road Food Store in Wigston on Monday, February 22.
“The members of staff on duty were unharmed, but they were obviously shaken by the incident and our primary concern is their safety and wellbeing.
“We are giving our full support to the police while they investigate this matter.”
