Go the whole hog for some lockdown treats at weekend

A FOOD event with a difference is happening this weekend on a farm.

Woodhouse Farm, in Elmesthorpe, near Hinckley, is hosting a hog roast and pizza drive-through on Saturday.

The farm’s drive-through hog roast events began last year, when the business had to adapt due to the effect of lockdown.

Saturday’s event will run from 10.30am until 4.15pm, and people must book their food and collection time online.

Upon arrival, they must stay in their car and wait for their food to be brought to them.

The events have proved hugely popular, and now the farm, which is close to beauty spot Burbage Common, has teamed up with fellow local food business, The Italian Stallion, to offer a selection of wood-fired pizzas. Diners could choose spit-roasted pork with crispy crackling, apple sauce and sage and onion stuffing, served in a fresh bread roll or in a tray without bread.

There is also burgers, bacon rolls, sausage rolls and a “meat feast” roll with bacon, sausage, pork and crackling on the menu.

There are four wood-fired pizzas to choose from: Queen Margherita, pepperoni with roquito pepper pearls, hunter’s chicken or garlic mushroom.

The drive-through hog roasts started last year as an adaptation of the farm’s outside catering business, specialising in hog, beef and lamb roasts.

Woodhouse Farm also has a shop, selling a range of local and homemade produce, including fruit and vegetables, lamb, Hereford beef, poultry and pork.

Homemade produce includes pies, sausage rolls and pasties, as well as dry-cured bacon, speciality sausages, black pudding, cooked ham and faggots.
