New-look village store offering an improved service

-

A NEW-LOOK food store has reopened in a village following a £500,000 refurbishment.

The Co-op shop in Station Road, Thurnby opened its doors last week, with a number of improvements.

The 3,000 sq ft store now includes a Costa Express coffee machine and additional selfservice tills.

It also has extended back-of-shop warehousing and refrigeration, which enables the store to increase the availability, choice and range of produce.

According to Co-op, there is now an improved focus on fresh, healthy produce, ready meals and pizzas, wines, “free-from” and vegan products, Fairtrade, hot food, food-to-go and everyday essentials.

Click and collect is available through Co-op’s online shop.

John Lewis and Amazon click and collect are also available at the store.

Students in Thurnby who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – can get a 10 per cent discount off groceries at the Co-op.

Ben Bennett, the area manager, said: “We are delighted to reopen to serve our community after having an opportunity to invest in and significantly improve our Thurnby food store.

“We have had a great response from the community.

“The store has a great new look and feel and we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services that will create a truly compelling offer to better serve the community with quality and value, quickly, easily and conveniently.”

As always, customers can also become members of the Co-op, which gives them the chance to save money, as well as making a difference to local causes.

THIEVES stole a “substantial” amount of goods from a lorry after slicing through its side-curtains, according to police.

The criminals targeted the HGV when it was parked in a lay-by outside the village of Walcote last week.

The items stolen included parts for Tesla cookers, police reported.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for information after a reported theft from a lorry near Lutterworth.

“It was reported that between 8pm on Wednesday, February 17 and 6am on Thursday, February 18 a curtain-sider lorry was cut open when parked in a lay-by on the A4304 Lutterworth Road near Walcote.

“A substantial amount of goods including parts for Tesla cookers were stolen.”

Detective Constable Nick Cox, who is investigating the theft, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage from the area on the night of the incident.

“Or anyone who may have driven along Lutterworth Road that night and might have seen anything suspicious.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
