To double money for project
COMPANY TO CONSTRUCT
The completed railway will be used not only for heritage trains and boosting tourism, but to attract more commercial work to the line, including testing and training for other rail companies.
This will help secure the GCR’s long-term future as well as bringing income to the East Midlands economy.
Meanwhile, the latest plans for the next section have been published by the railway. Developed by engineering consultants Cass Hayward, they show concrete beams being used to construct the car park and road crossing.
A reclaimed bridge deck donated by Network Rail will also be used. “These are really exciting times for the Reunification scheme,” said Andy.
“It was once described as impossible, but people power is making it happen and if everyone gets behind Money Match March, we’ll really have some momentum going.”

THE beginning of the HS2 project means a steel company is hiring employees.
F Brazil Reinforcements, which manufactures and supplies steel reinforcement products, hopes to start production at the former trailer manufacturing Montracon site, in Thorn Street, Woodville.
Up to 30 jobs are set to be created as the company helps to construct the high-speed rail line and it is expected the jobs will begin in April.
Director John Fitzgerald said the site – in South Derbyshire near the Leicestershire border and about two miles from Ashby – had been chosen due to its transport links and proximity to the sort of employees it needed, who may have previously worked at companies such as construction firm Roger Bullivant.
Following the completion of the sale of the site, Montracon has relocated to a nearby base off Occupation Lane.
The site has been on the market since at least 2015 and has now been snapped up by F Brazil after the property was marketed at a guide price of £3.5 million.
Set across 12 acres, the facility comprises a number of industrial and office buildings totalling 163,303 sq ft.
Ian Muxlow, director in the commercial team at Savills Nottingham, which sold the site, said: “The sale of the former Montracon site provided the purchaser with the opportunity to acquire an extensive manufacturing facility in an excellent location offering good links to both the A42 and J22 of the M1.
“The site generated significant interest from a wide range of buyers, including commercial occupiers, investors and developers, indicative of the current strong demand for freehold industrial opportunities in the Midlands, which enabled us to secure an excellent outcome on behalf of our client.”
