A RESIDENT who has had two cars leave the road and crash into his home during the recent cold spell says a bend in the road is dangerous.

Aemn Ismail, a father-of-two, said he and his family are now afraid that another car will hit their house or even injure them or pedestrians in the street.

The surgeon, who has children aged 12 and eight, paid Taylor Wimpey £400,000 for the new detached fivebedroom house in Laverton Road, Hamilton, in December 2019.

The 39-year-old, an obstetric and gynaecology registrar for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, said cars have crashed into his house twice in two weeks due to the sharp bend and the camber of the road.

Taylor Wimpey has acknowledged Mr Ismail’s concerns but said a traffic calming scheme set to be introduced several yards along the road should alleviate the problems at the bend.

“I am worried all the time now,” said Aemn. “The way things are, my family or a pedestrian could be hurt or even worse. This problem needs addressing and fixing before it is too late.”

Aemn said that on January 24 he and his family were in the house and saw a car go through the bushes on their front garden after leaving the road. Six hours later, another hit his house.

“The second car actually crashed into the wall of our house,” he said. “It was terrible shock for us all.

“Our house is located in the corner of a 90 degree curve in Laverton Road. The street in this area has a 10-degree slope towards the house and the curve.

“This led many cars when it snowed, even mild snow, to be unable to turn properly at the 90 degree curve and majority of them jumped up on the pavement. It is a big worry for us all the time.”

Two weeks later, on February 8, another car crashed into the front of his home.

“A car drove into my house, causing serious damage,” he said. “We are having to have repairs done to the house. This constant worry is unbearable to live with day after day.

“I have tried to get Taylor Wimpey to sort this out as the council has said the road is the developer’s responsibility. I am concerned this curve is dangerous and needs immediate attention.

“Luckily, we were in schools’ lockdown time but this pavement is the only way out to most of the children who live in this area to their schools every morning.

“I am concerned about the safety of the pedestrians on the pavement, my family and my property.”

A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: “The safety and wellbeing of residents on our developments is very important to us and we understand and appreciate the concerns associated with the road safety at Laverton Road, Hamilton.

“We can confirm that a proposed speed reduction plan in Laverton Road, agreed with Leicester City Council, should be implemented by a separate housing developer.

“This will assist in slowing vehicles down before they reach the bend near this resident’s property.”
