MURDER PROBE AS YOUNG MAN IS STABBED TO DEATH

have launched a murder investigat­ion after a man died following a stabbing.

Paramedics were called to St Columba Way, in Syston, at just after 11pm on Saturday, where they found the 24-year-old with wounds to his chest.

He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, by ambulance but his injuries were so severe medics could not save him and he died during the early hours of Sunday.

Police have said a 21-year-old man, from Charnwood, was arrested at the scene at the time of the incident on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and was in police custody yesterday evening.

Detectives believe the suspect and the victim were known to each other.

They said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this stage.

The scene of the crime remained taped off.

A post-mortem examinatio­n was due to take place yesterday.

Detectives said investigat­ions to establish the full circumstan­ces of the incident are continuing, includ ing checking CCTV and making house-to-house inquiries.

Anyone with any informatio­n in relation to the incident is urged to make contact.

Detective Inspector Kenny Henry, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit, is leading the investigat­ion.

He said: “A 24-year-old man has lost his life and we are carrying out full inquiries at the scene to establish what has happened.

“A 21-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody assisting us with our inquiries.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of St Columba Way on Saturday evening and who saw or heard anything which caused them concern to make contact with us.

“If you have any informatio­n which you think could help our inquiries – no matter how insignific­ant it may seem – you should also get in touch. “Similarly, anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area yesterday evening should make contact with us if you have not already done so.” Anyone with any informatio­n should call the police on 101.
