Flat linked to drug allegations sealed up
A FLAT linked to alleged drug activity and breaches of the lockdown regulations has been sealed up and its occupant kicked out.
The property, in Rutland Street, near Melton town centre, was closed following a series of incidents which had caused “high concern” among neighbours, police said.
A court order, which bars anyone from entering the property for the next three months, was granted at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, following an application by police. Pc Davey Rawlings worked with officers from Melton Borough Council to build a file of evidence to present to the court. Pc Rawlings said: “We were receiving a number of reports in relation to this property, which were, understandably, causing high concern in the community.
“Working with Melton Borough Council, we therefore took action to obtain this order.
“We hope this provides some reassurance within the community and that it also shows the action we will take when concerns are raised.
“Please continue to report any concerns you have to us regarding criminal activity and antisocial behaviour so that we can continue to work with you to keep our communities safe.”
In a statement, police said: “The closure order came following concerns raised, including reports of visitors to the property in breach of Covid-19 legislation.
“Two fixed-penalty notices have been issued to the occupant following breaches. The amount of these notices is dependent on a number of factors, including when the fine is paid.
“Officers have also attended reports of antisocial behaviour at the property, including reports the property was being used in relation to drug use and distribution.”
The council is in the process of housing the occupant at a “suitable location”, police said.
