Three fined for Covid breach and cannabis seized

-

CANNABIS was seized and three people fined for breaching lockdown rules after making an illicit journey to a Leicestershire beauty spot.

Officers from Charnwood Neighbourhood Policing Team were carrying out a patrol of the area around Swithland Reservoir, west of Mountsorrel and Rothley and south of Quorn, when they came across the trio on Sunday.

When challenged by the two officers, they failed to provide a lawful explanation for why they had left their homes and travelled to the area.

A search of one or more of the individuals also revealed they were in possession of a small quantity of cannabis.

The police officers took to Twitter to share brief details of the incident – including a reminder that Covid regulations barring all but absolutely necessary journeys are still in place – to followers of the official Charnwood Police account.

The message included a photograph of an evidence bag containing two small film cannisters alleged to have contained a quantity of the illegal Class B drug.

It read: “A number of Covid fines issued tonight down Kinchley Lane as well as dealing with cannabis possession.

“It’s turned out to be an expensive outing for three people. The Covid regulations are still in place so please continue to adhere to them.”

Officers have been handing out fixed penalty notices of £200 for people found to be breaching the lockdown rules.

A police spokesman said: “Officers received a call from a member of the public reporting a breach of Covid regulations in Kinchley Lane, Quorn.

“Officers attended and three £200 fixed penalty notices were issued. Three people were also dealt with by community order for possession of cannabis.”
