Food and drink event in woodland

-

A QUIRKY forest-based event is happening soon in Leicestershire.

Campfire Cookout is being organised by street food events company Campfire, which promises a festival of open fire cooking, cocktails, craft beer and acoustic music.

It will take place beside campfires, in an ancient woodland on the fringes of Ashby.

According to Campfire director

Colin Crowden, the team has been busy during lockdown, getting creative and exploring what they have missed from events and what got them excited to return – which led to the Campfire Cookouts concept.

“Our Campfire brand takes a blend of traditional and indigenous cooking styles we have learnt on our travels such as Mayan-style pit cooking, open flame wood barbecues and Argentinian asado crosses,” said Colin.

There will be fireside acoustic sets from Warren Stanford and guest under the stars.

Campfire Cookout will take place from 4pm until 10pm on Saturday, May 29, at Field Sports UK, an adventure and sports centre set in 23 acres of ancient woodland.

Tickets cost £99 and include the full dinner menu. Visit their website.

A NEW cafe serving homemade food will be opening soon in Stoneygate.

The Baking Room is due to launch in Allandale Road, once lockdown restrictions are eased.

It is based in the premises previously occupied by Indian tea room Hamira, which closed permanently last year. Customers will be able to enjoy sandwiches, soups and cakes, as well as afternoon teas and picnic hampers. All of the food will be homemade, down to the speciality breads.

There are also plans to host supper clubs with different themes each month, such as Caribbean and Polish cuisine.

The Baking Room will also include a gallery wall for local artists to display their work.

It is being launched by pastry chef Jaz Harris and keen cook Stefan Kosmaczewski.

Jaz said: “I’ve had the dream of opening my own cafe since I was a child and my business partner Stefan has had a passion for catering and food, and it’s a way to explore and grow this.”

The Baking Room is offering afternoon teas for collection and delivery, and the plan is to open in April for takeaways.
