Sad to see so much litter along roadside

-

WE had occasion to use the A46 from the Thurmaston area back towards junction 21 of the M1 last Friday.

Of course, due to the ongoing restrictions, any travel is rare.

This made the shock I felt at the sheer volume of rubbish along the entire length of the A46, in both directions, even more pronounced as it is so noticeable.

I honestly thought initially that a bin lorry or skip must have been involved in an accident, there was such an amount of litter on the verges!

The litter covers miles of verges, both sides. It’s truly horrifying and what a terrible reflection of the area.

The task of trying to clear the debris must be astronomical. How very, very sad.

A STREET in a county town could be closed for another fortnight while repairs are carried out to a burst water main.

Work in Church Street, off the main A47 Leicester Road, in Earl Shilton, started a week ago.

Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order to allow engineers for

Severn Trent Water to fix the main.

A spokesman for the council said that the closure was to ensure the safety of the public during the work.

He said: “An emergency road closure is required on Church Street for up to 21 days.

“The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order has been implemented for public safety for

Severn Trent Water to facilitate the repair of a burst water main.

“The proposed alternative diversion route will be signed on site. Access to properties will be maintained – however, a short delay in gaining access may occur whilst the area is made safe.

“We apologise for any inconvenience during these works.”
