Goalkeeper could be a wanted man in loan market

-

HIGHLY-RATED Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen is hoping to extend his run at Championship Preston North End into next season, writes Andy Turner.

The 23-year-old Dane, left, has played 12 games for the Lilywhites after joining the Lancashire club on loan in January when the Foxes recalled him from a temporary spell at City’s sister club OH Leuven.

The 6ft 4in keeper was due to stay there for the whole campaign but he lost his place after suffering an injury and, when fit again, moved on loan to Preston.

Since joining Alex Neil’s team, he has signed a new long-term contract to keep him at the King Power Stadium until 2025, has played every league game and continues to impress between the sticks.

Apart from a mistake in midweek against Millwall, Iversen has barely put a foot wrong in a Preston shirt and looks the real deal.

He made several key stops in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on

Saturday, and faced the media after the match.

“I don’t know, I actually don’t know,” he said in reply to his plans for next season when he’s expected to be much sought-after as a season-long loan option.

“Hopefully I can go out on loan again. It’s not my choice really but I want to play football every week and so hopefully I can go out on loan again next season.”

Neil said: “He’s a good goalie isn’t he? In terms of shot stopping in particular, I think you’ll struggle to find better in the league – I think he’s that good of a shot stopper for us.

“Even after the game he’s talking that he could maybe do better for the goal; the guy has hit it from about eight yards out at 100mph.

“I just think it shows his mentality, he’s a good lad Dan and his decisionmaking will get better as he gets a bit older but if you just talk about doing what you want goalies to do – which is to make saves – he’s absolutely first class at that.”
