BRENDAN Rodgers is hoping to welcome two players back into his squad this week – but only after he was hit by another injury blow.

The Leicester City boss is expecting to have Jonny Evans and Ayoze Perez available for selection for the match with bottom of the table Sheffield United on Sunday, but Cengiz Under won’t feature after picking up a knock.

Evans has missed two games after a long-term calf issue became too painful during the defeat to Arsenal, while Perez has missed six games since picking up a knee injury in the win over Liverpool.

After the duo make their comebacks next weekend, Dennis Praet, who has been out since early January with a serious hamstring problem, is expected to be the next player back.

“We’re hopeful on Jonny,” Rodgers said on Saturday after the 2-1 win over Brighton.

“He should be fine. That was the feeling from the medical team, that he would miss Burnley and here but be okay for Sheffield United, which is good news for us to have him available.

“Ayo we’re hoping at some point next week can rejoin.

“Dennis starts to get closer when he gets out onto the field. But I definitely think Ayo and Jonny will hopefully at some point next week join us.”

But it is not all good news. Under was absent from the squad on the south coast, and Rodgers explained that he had injured himself in training.

“He picked up a slight knock yesterday (Friday),” the manager said. “So that meant he wasn’t available for the game.

“He might be a few weeks out, so it’s another one to add to the list.”

If Evans and Perez return, City will have six players out of the game with the Blades: Under, Praet, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Wes Morgan and James Justin.
