‘Injuries are no excuse for missing our target’

-

TIMOTHY Castagne insists Leicester City will never use their lengthy injury list as an excuse for poor results as he looks to help the club seal a Champions League place, writes Mark Whiley.

City’s injury issues have been well-documented but manager Brendan Rodgers has rarely highlighted those problems.

And the same mantra has seemingly been adopted by the players.

Castagne, above, said the Foxes played with their “heart” in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brighton as they fought back from one down thanks to goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Daniel Amartey.

“There are injuries everywhere, so you just have to deal with what you’ve got,” the Belgian told LCFC TV.

“There’s no excuses. We played with our heart and that’s what worked.

“We showed character. I thought we could do better against Burnley, and the same here in the first half, but the most important thing is the win and even if we have less players available because of injuries, it doesn’t matter.”

The Foxes were poor in the first half at the Amex Stadium but looked like a different side after the break.

“It’s a very important win for us,” said Castagne.

“We didn’t start well, it was a very bad first half, but we showed character to come back and win this because [Brighton’s] a very good side.

“Coming here is never easy, so we’re happy with the points, but we know we can do better.”

Castagne admits the Foxes must now look to improve their form at the King Power Stadium.

While City boast the best away record in the Premier League, they are seventh in the home league table.

“It means also that we have to do better at home because we can’t only win away games,” he said.

“It’s something that we can work on, but yes, it’s good to win.”
