Tesco apology after nurse highlights Covid lapses

-

A FRUSTRATED nurse has blasted a Tesco store for its coronavirus safety standards.

The store has responded to her comments, saying the message will be passed on to the store’s management.

In a message to Tesco on Twitter, the nurse said she shopped at the Tesco Extra in the Shelthorpe area of Loughborough and “came back mad” every time because of the failure of shops to enforce the rules.

She added she even had to have words with a member of staff for not complying with the rules.

She said: “I told a staff member off for not having his mask over his nose. (Meanwhile), car park full, people still shopping with friends and family. I give up!

“I certainly don’t go every week and have been shopping on my own since Lockdown 1.”

Another woman joined in, adding: “It’s not exceptions though. No one on shop doors, no one asking people to shop alone, it’s more like a family outing. We have the highest rate of Covid in the UK in Leicestershire, shops managers need to do more.”

Tesco responded to the nurse, apologising and promising to pass her comments on to the store managers.

The series of tweets from Tesco said: “I appreciate you getting in touch and I will make sure your feedback is passed on to the store management team to look into.

“I’m sorry some colleagues didn’t follow the advice we’ve given. There are signs up in all of our stores and in colleague break areas, to ask them to follow the guidelines for their own safety and that of our customers.

The Mercury contacted Tesco for a further comment.

A spokesman said: “The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority. We continue to follow all government guidance and we have extensive social distancing measures in all stores to ensure customers can maintain a safe distance shopping.”
