Frasier is back in the building
Prepare for another appointment with comedy hit Frasier as plans for a reboot get under way
THE doctor can see you now – multi awardwinning comedy Frasier is set to return to our TV screens with Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane.
The comedy starring the now 66-year-old is being made for streaming service Paramount+ and Kelsey says: “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane.”
Fraiser made his first appearance as one of the regulars in comedy series Cheers before getting his own spinoff show which saw him move to Seattle for a fresh start... and his father Martin promptly moving in with him.
The comedy launched in 1993 and ran for 263 rating-stopping episodes over 11 seasons, picking up 37 Emmy Awards along the way.
Friends star Lisa Kudrow was originally cast to play Frasier’s radio producer Roz before the part went to Peri Gilpin. Roz handled the calls to the station once informing Frasier: “We’ve got a couple of jilted lovers, a man who’s afraid of his own car, a maniac depressive and three people who feel their lives are going nowhere.”
Jane Leeves played live-in help and physiotherapist Daphne. Frasier’s brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) fell in love with the British beauty at first sight, but it took years before he could admit his feelings for her... on the night before her marriage to another man.
However, the late John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane, used to say that Eddie the dog got more fan mail than any of the cast.
Loveable Eddie, was originally played by a Jack Russell terrier, Moose and later by Moose’s son Enzo. Liver pâté would be discreetly smeared on John’s face when a scene called for Eddie to lick him.
Many former Cheers cast members appeared on the show and Kelsey has called it “the happiest 11 years of my life”.
