Closed for 11 days due to supply shortfall

-

ONE county vaccination site which had to close for 11 days due to supply issues will still be “several thousand doses short” of completing the rollout for one cohort despite the recent reallocation of some doses, it has been revealed.

Covid vaccine supply continues to be the local rollout’s biggest “constraint”, a meeting of local health bosses was told.

A Charnwood GP said the vaccination site based at the borough council offices has been closed for approaching two weeks now and will not have enough jabs to inject all of those in priority group six – all individuals aged 16 years to 64 with underlying health conditions – when it reopens.

Dr Geoff Hanlan, of Charnwood Community Medical Group, said: “The Charnwood primary care network vaccination hub has now been closed for 11 days because of a lack of vaccine, we’ve had further difficulties with vaccine allocation over the weekend and even with the latest reallocation we will be several thousand short of the number needed to complete cohort six.

“That is leading to a lot of very angry phone calls from patients.”

Rachna Vyas, executive director of integration and transformation for the CCGs, told the meeting: “Everything is open, everything is at full capacity, our constraint continues to be supply.”

There are more than two dozen venues across the city, county and Rutland giving the jabs including a mass vaccination site at the Peepul Centre, pharmacists, GP surgeries and sites such as Leicester Racecourse.
