A BURGLAR kicked his way into a disability aids shop before escaping on a top-of-the-range £10,000 mobility scooter.

The man targeted Modern Mobility, at Fosse Park shopping centre, Leicester, at the weekend.

The shop says it will offer a reward for information which leads to the safe recovery of the Cabin Car scooter, which can reach a speed of up to 8mph.

It has passed its CCTV footage to the Mercury, hoping publicity will help identify the intruder.

Police believe the man knew exactly what he was going to steal before he broke in.

The recording shows the man, who was wearing a face mask, approach the front door and attempt to pick the lock.

However, he quickly gives up and changes tack and instead begins to direct a series of kicks at the door, which eventually gives way.

About 20 seconds later, the recording shows him emerging on the scooter and disappearing out of view

The burglary took place at 8.15pm on Saturday, March 13 and has been reported to Leicestershire Police.

Store manager Nick Partridge said: “Somebody has now been left without a mobility vehicle because of this cowardly act.

“The Cabin Car is the most expensive item in the shop, somebody clearly knew what they were looking for.”

Police said an investigation was under way.

Officers and a forensics team have been to the shop and the investigation is continuing, a force spokesman told the Mercury.

He said: “Around 8.45pm on Saturday, officers received a report from a member of the public of a burglary at a commercial premises on Fosse Park Avenue.

“Officers attended and found the front door of the premises had been forced open. A mobility scooter was stolen.

“No injuries were reported and inquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with any information that could help officers should call police on their 101 number.

Information can also be passed to the shop on 0116 263 0600.
