Fill in calendar for some free post-Covid fun (but use pencil)

TOWN LOOKS FORWARD TO SUMMER - ALL BEING WELL

FAMILIES in Hinckley may still be able to enjoy some of the town’s most popular events of the year this summer.

The government’s four-step roadmap for lifting the Covid-19 rules has outlined that all legal restrictions on large events could be lifted from June 21 – so you can pencil in some of these free events and hope all goes to plan.

This means the Snapdragon Children’s Festival, Hinckley BID’s Summer of Fun and the Proms in the Park open air concert could go ahead.

Organisers from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Hinckley BID are tenatively planning for these and several other free events.

Councillor Keith Nichols, executive member for culture and leisure at the council, said: “We all hope that as the restrictions begin to lift, we can all look forward to getting out and doing things we enjoy doing freely with our friends and families once again this summer.

“The events calendar is important for residents and businesses alike, and we’re all keen to make them successful and enjoyable, but public safety will remain an absolute priority, so we will continue to review national advice and make any necessary changes and adaptations to operate events everyone can enjoy safely.

“Until then, I’d urge everyone to keep following the guidance so that we can all return to some normality this summer.”

Events back in the diary for the time being include:

■ Saturday, June 26 Forces Day;

■ Thursday, July 15 - Classic car meet up;

■ Wednesday, August 4 to 6 Snapdragon Children’s Festival;

■ Saturday, August 7 to 8 - Feast Hinckley; - Armed

■ Thursday, August 19 - Classic car meet up;

■ Saturday, September 4 - Proms in the Park;

■ Sunday, September 19 - Hinckley BID’s Motorshow for Classic Cars and Vehicles of Special Interest;

■ Saturdays from July 3 to September 18 - Music in the Mead live performances.

The BID’s Summer of Fun is a programme of free weekly entertainment for children in the town centre, running throughout the summer holidays.

Proms in the Park, in Hollycroft Park, is organised by the council and Hinckley Round Table, and is set to return after a six-year hiatus.

Steve Wegerif, director of Hinckley BID, said: “We are looking forward to bringing free fun events back this year.

“These will include our Wednesday street entertainment during the school summer holidays, our amazing motorshow, with over 300 vehicles already entered, our Autumn ‘Shop Hinckley Half Term Week and Treasure Hunt,’ the ever popular Santa Fun Run and our very special Santa’s Grotto.”
