A KNIFE-wielding drug dealer who thought he was “above the law” carried out an attack in front of horrified onlookers.

Nathan Bloor, pictured, was yesterday handed a long jail sentence.

A KNIFE-wielding drug dealer who thought he was “above the law” carried out a blatant street stabbing in front of horrified onlookers.

Nathan Bloor was said to have been “sending a message” to show how those who owed him money were dealt with, a court heard.

The shocking early evening roadside attack stopped traffic in the city’s New Parks Way, as Bloor and two others inflicted a “gratuitous and degrading” beating with a 12-inch knife, a metal baton and pepper spray.

Bloor, 27, was convicted by a Leicester Crown Court jury this week of intentionally wounding the 26-year-old victim.

He was also found guilty of possessing a knife during the assault, on Sunday, January 25 last year.

He was jailed for a total of 12 years and four months.

Others said to have been involved in the group attack have not been prosecuted.

The victim was chased by three men, including Bloor, who jumped out of a car in Musson Road, New Parks, at 5pm.

He was felled by multiple blows and was pepper-sprayed in his face, before he was continually punched, kicked, beaten and stabbed.

The group accused him of owing money, but the victim told the jury that although he previously bought drugs from Bloor, he had no debt.

He told the court as Bloor aimed the blade at his face, he grabbed it and held on until it snapped.

Bleeding and in fear, he rolled into the road, stopping traffic and was helped by passing motorists, including a nurse.

But for that, he would have been more seriously injured, said the judge.

The victim suffered cuts and wounds to his forehead, back, right thigh and leg as well as his hand, all requiring stitches.

James Bide-Thomas, prosecuting, told the sentencing hearing: “The attack had an ongoing effect on the victim who has had to leave the area he grew up in.

“He still feels unsafe and is always looking over his shoulder.”

Bloor, of Styon Road, New Parks, denied the wounding and knife charges, blaming others.

But he admitted two counts of possessing heroin and crackcocaine, with intent to supply, on June 2 last year - when stopped in a car in Dominion Road, Glenfield, and found to have £2,450 worth of class A drugs on him.

Recorder Benet Brandreth QC said of the street attack: “In the early evening you were out with your confederates. You had a knife and the rest of your gang were also armed, with a baton and pepper spray.

“Seeing the victim in the street – a friend you believed owed you money for drugs – you immediately set after him.

“You chased him on foot with the car, driving wildly, following behind. On New Parks Way you ran him to the ground. As members of the public drove past, he was pepper-sprayed, beaten and set upon with fists, feet, a baton and a knife.”

The recorder added: “By good fortune, and perhaps because he was able to grab the knife off you, he suffered relatively less serious injuries than might have been expected. You intended causing much worse.

“You and your confederates didn’t relent, even when members of the public called for it to stop.”

Recorder Brandreth also told Bloor: “You obviously thought you were above the law. The attack was in a public place and the verdict makes it clear this was deliberately so, because you wanted to send a message about how you dealt with those you believed owed you money.

“You lied again and again in an attempt to evade the consequences of your actions.”

In mitigation, Roger Wilson, said: “He (Bloor) was a class A drug user at the time and street dealing to fund his habit.

“He suffers from ADHD, anxiety and depression and was living a chaotic and impulsive lifestyle, but while in custody he has been medicated. He is now free of that (drug) addiction.”
