Suspect in custody as murder detectives appeal for witnesses
SMITA MISTRY WAS FOUND DEAD IN CITY HOUSE
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at a house in Leicester.
Smita Mistry was found dead at the home in Gedge Way on the Saffron Lane estate by police, who received a call raising concerns for her safety shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.
The man arrested is believed to have been known to Smita, also known locally as Smita Saunders. He remains in police custody. Gedge Way and a section of Marriott Road were taped off by officers after Smita’s body was found and the cordon remains in place as the investigation continues.
Officers have continued to carry out enquiries in the area, speaking with witnesses and checking CCTV as well offering reassurance to concerned residents.
Detectives from the force are now appealing to anyone with information or had contact with Smita over the past few days to contact them.
Detective Inspector Nicole Main, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “I am appealing first of all to anyone who has had any contact with Smita since Friday

to get in touch with us – no matter how insignificant the contact you had may seem.
“Your information may help us as we establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“I am also appealing to anyone who has been in the area of Gedge
Way between Friday, March 19 and Tuesday evening to think back to anything you may have seen or heard which could assist our enquiries.
“If you have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area during this time, and have not yet made contact with us, then please get in touch. I understand this incident will have caused concern in the community. Please be assured we have a dedicated team carrying out a full investigation into this incident as well as officers in the area offering reassurance.”
