Reflections on whole year spent in lockdown

-

LOOKING then, at the last complete year since lockdown, it’s made me wonder about a few things.

Have I changed? Have you changed? Has your character changed – for the better or worse?

Has it coped with everything that has been thrown at it and you’ve just soldiered on? I bet you’ve learned something about yourself.

What about your relations and friends? Have you learned more about them, or lost touch? Have they coped with illness, adversity, changed daily routines?

It has definitely brought the best out of many – lots of kindness, sympathy and caring.

Of course, we have a few who have not reacted well, who cause or have been in trouble.

Has it changed in you something you’re quite pleased about or proud of, or possibly not shown the best side of you?

The next year, I fancy, is one that will be mighty interesting, maybe worrying or otherwise.

How quickly do you think you will move into a new routine, not necessarily that much like the old one you used to have?

Will money considerations be more vital, more so than ever? What will shopping be like, if indeed there are still enough shops existing?

Will viewing live sport again be very different?

Will there be too many cars on the roads and too many pedestrians on the paths?

A certain alsatian has told me he was worried he may get fewer walks once things are back to “normal”.

Finally, some chap in Wigston suggests the Mercury letters page should be twice as big!

Mike Ross, Wigston Mailbox ed’s note: If everyone was as prolific as you are at letter-writing, Mike, we could have two pages every day! Keep them coming, and tell others to get writing as well. The wider the variety of correspondence, the bigger and better the Mailbox page will be.
