RESIDENTS and businesses in Hinckley are being invited to air their views on how a £1.85 million investment to revive the town centre should be spent.

The survey is the first step in the town’s High Street Heritage Action Zone project, a four-year scheme which will include upgrades around Castle Street, Church Walk car park and the area’s historic jitties and yards.

Historic building owners and occupiers within the retail core of the town centre will also be able to apply for grants for repairs and reinstating traditional features, with a particular focus on shop fronts.

Planners will also look at whether vacant buildings and spaces can be redeveloped, and a range of events and activities will be put on to engage people with Hinckley’s heritage and culture.

David Bill, deputy leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said: “I am delighted to see work start on a project that can only benefit the town, its residents and visitors.

“Every town centre across the country has suffered during the pandemic but this project will enable us to help regenerate our town centre and surrounding areas. I hope residents take this opportunity to get involved in helping to shape the future of our historic town.”

The scheme has been 50 per cent funded by Historic England, while the remainder of the cash is to come from private and public sources, with a contribution of around £360,000 from the borough council.
