Spanner or wrench used to hit victim of robbery

A MAN was hit over the head with a “spanner or wrench” and had his laptop stolen in a street robbery in Leicester.

The victim had been walking in the Beaumont Leys area of the city when the masked attacker struck.

Police have issued an appeal for informatio­n to help trace and apprehend the culprit, who detectives believe will have been seen by others while either committing the offence or running away from the scene.

The incident happened on the evening of Thursday, March 18, police said in an appeal just released.

A detailed descriptio­n of the suspect has been provided by the victim.

A police spokespers­on said: “At around 6.30pm in the Beaumont Leys area of the city, it was reported that a man was hit over the head with a spanner or wrench before his laptop was stolen.

“The attacker ran away towards Heacham Drive and Scalpay Close.”

WITNESSES PLEA

The Mercury has asked the police where the incident itself took place, and is awaiting a reply.

The robber is described as black, about 6ft and between 25 to 30 years of age. He had a curly black beard and was wearing either a red face mask or red scarf partially covering his face, a black hoodie with the hood up, black clothing and white shoes.

Detective Constable Charlotte Pattison said: “This incident occurred early in the evening when it was still light and people are likely to have still been out and about.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the man described.”

She added: “We would urge people who were driving in the Beaumont Leys area to check their dashcam footage to see if they may have captured this man.”
