Fight police stumble on drugs farm
OFFICERS AT HOUSE TO ARREST PAIR OVER AFFRAY IN VILLAGE
OFFICERS stumbled upon a cannabis farm at a house in Leicester while arresting two men on suspicion of affray over an unrelated incident.
The suspects had been wanted by police in connection with a fight that is alleged to have taken place in Wymeswold, near Loughborough.
Warrants were issued for their arrest, however, when officers visited a property in Brent Knowles Gardens, in the Thurncourt area of the city on Wednesday March 25, where the pair were thought to be staying - they discovered more than they had expected to find.
Members of the force’s Road Policing Unit (RPU) and ARV (armed response vehicle) team were also called to the address to assist colleagues in detaining the duo. They took to social media to share news of the drugs bust to followers of the RPU’s official Twitter account.
“Not just traffic as part of our day job,” it read. “RPU and ARV officers have today assisted area colleagues with arresting two for affray and cannabis cultivation.”
A police spokesman confirmed that a third person – a 64-year-old woman – was also arrested at the address on suspicion of producing cannabis.
He said: “Officers attended a property in Brent Knowle Gardens, to make arrests relating to an incident in Wymeswold.
“A 32-year-old man and a 37-yearold man, both of Leicester, were arrested on suspicion of affray.
“A search of the property was then conducted and over 50 cannabis plants and growing equipment were seized”, the spokesman added.
“The men, and a 64-year-old woman from Leicester, were further arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis.” The spokesman said none of those arrested had yet been charged with any offences and that inquiries into the alleged fight and cannabis farm were ongoing.
