Simpson is reunited with his ex-boss Pearson

-

FORMER Leicester City full-back Danny Simpson has joined Championship side Bristol City and been reunited with his ex-Foxes boss Nigel Pearson, writes Aime Wilson.

The 34-year-old, below, has been without a club since leaving Huddersfield Town at the end of last season.

He maintained his fitness by training and playing with City’s U23 squad and has now recovered from injury that kept him out of action.

Simpson was a key member of the 2015/16 Premier League winning team, playing 30 league games as City went on to lift an unlikely title.

He left the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2019 after playing back-up to Ricardo Pereira.

The full-back was signed by Pearson for Leicester City in 2014 and played 16 times as the club escaped relegation at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Simpson, who has joined Bristol City until the end of the season, said the chance to work with Pearson again had an impact on his decision.

“Nigel has been massive. He signed me for Leicester and he influenced me both as a player and as a man as well,” he told Bristol City’s official website.

“I learnt a lot about his values, how he speaks and treats people. He treats everyone the same and I walked into a building where he had created a good spirit, a good family where everyone was together.

“I learnt a lot from him that year and we always kept in touch. It was the same coming here to Bristol City so it’s good to be reunited with him and hopefully I can do well.”
