Under ‘set to return to Italy’

-

CENGIZ Under appears destined not to make his loan to Leicester City a permanent move this summer, according to fresh reports in Italy, writes Leigh Curtis.

Under has spent the season at the King Power Stadium from Roma, but has struggled to nail down a firstteam place under boss Brendan Rodgers.

Roma had hoped Under would impress enough to convince the Foxes to make a permanent move for the Turkey international in the summer.

Under has scored two goals and registered three assists during his time at the club.

But he has only played 941 minutes of football under Rodgers this season, most of which have come in the Europa League.

Roma had hoped to bank around £20 million from Leicester had they decided to sign him, but they are set to miss out after Corriere dello Sport claimed they will have to look elsewhere for potential suitors.

They report that “the great leap to the Premier League didn’t help the Turkish forward”.

There are now plans for Under to discuss what happens at the end of the season but the chances of a deal with Leicester look extremely remote.

The news comes after former Leicester star Emile Heskey gave his verdict on the winger’s future.

The 43-year-old, who is still involved with the club in an ambassadorial and coaching role with the Foxes women’s team, believes Rodgers should switch his attention this summer and prioritise Marseille’s World Cup winner Florian Thauvin.

The former striker, who scored 40 goals in 154 league games for Leicester, told HITC : “I remember seeing him (at the start of the season) and thinking; ‘Why have they bought him?’

“Now, a few months on, I see that he’s fitter but where does he fit (into Rodgers’ team)?”
