Rothley Park captains to serve for second year
FOR the 2020 Rothley Park GC captains, Alan Dorn and Jenny Piecha, it was an extremely difficult year.
Competitions and clubs fixtures of all kinds had to be cancelled, a big disappointment for club captains, who had arranged special events to make their year of office even more memorable and enjoyable.
But Alan and Jenny have been invited – and agreed – to serve another year in post.
In this imaginative move by the club’s board of directors and members, the pair will make Rothley Park GC history and are now looking forward to what they hope will be an exciting season.
Dorn is the first person for over a century to serve for two years as captain.
The only man previously to do this at Rothley Park was its first ever captain, AF Burnby, and the only lady to attain the honour was Mrs FS Banks, who held office throughout
In this imaginative move by the club’s board of directors and members, the pair will make Rothley Park GC history
the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.
Dorn said: “The spirit in the club has never been diminished by the restrictions and the late start to the season last year and now I am looking forward to the 2021 calendar. I am confident this year will be a memorable one for Rothley Park and I cannot wait for the golf to begin again.”
Piecha said: “After a successful but brief start to the 2020 season, all my planned events ground to a halt for us all. I am so delighted to be given an opportunity of fulfilling the exciting calendar of events I had planned for last year. Also, it is great to get this chance to go down as the club’s second-longest-serving lady captain is really special.
“Rothley Park has a tremendous ladies’ section and finally I intend to give them all a year to remember.”
