Stuck stick fright for Frankie

MINI DACHSUND HAD TO BE TAKEN TO VETS AFTER FALLING ILL

A SAUSAGE dog with her own social media following had to be taken to the vets after she tried to eat something that disagreed with her.

Frankie, a mini dachshund, is known for helping model jewellery items for her owner, Nicci Renshaw.

Ms Renshaw runs an online jewellery shop, with an Instagam page that has 37,000 followers and on which Frankie regularly features alongside the bling.

The 10-month-old dog, named after the Frankfurter sausage, also has her own Instagram page.

She gave her owner a fright last week when they were out in the garden.

Ms Renshaw had gone out to look at the coconut birdfeeders she had just put up in the garden and her pet followed her.

She said: “I was looking at the birdfeeder when I saw her making a funny noise, like she was trying to be sick.

“I hit her back gently because I thought she was choking. I checked her airway and ran my finger inside her mouth but I couldn’t feel anything.”

Frankie was taken to nearby Fairfield vets where head nurse Kathryn found a stick lodged across the roof of her mouth at the back.

The vets said in a post on Facebook about the incident: “Fortunately we were quickly able to remove it with forceps, and Frankie was immediately keen to take a treat.

“She didn’t seem too concerned about the fright she had given her owners. Mischievous little sausage.”

Nicci said she will be keeping a close eye on Frankie next time she ventures into the garden, although usually the little dog prefers playing with cuddly toys to munching on sticks.

Her owners have had her since she was a puppy. They said they were inspired to join the “sausage dog squad” as several of their friends also have mini dachshunds.

Days earlier, the vets had to operate on Hinckley springer spaniel Buster, who had fallen ill after swallowing a face mask.

He came across the PPE item while out for a walk in Argents Mead.

His owners have since decided to muzzle him when he goes out.
