SEVERAL sheep and two dogs have died following a “massacre” in a field, according to reports.

Two alsatians were allegedly seen attacking sheep and lambs in a field outside Ullesthorpe on Monday morning.

A witness said the incident took place on farmland off Lutterworth Road shortly before 9am.

The attack was reported to police, who confirmed at least three sheep and two dogs have died.

The witness said on Facebook: “Two alsatian dogs have recently committed a massacre of sheep and lambs in Ullesthorpe. Does anyone know who they may belong to as they are very dangerous dogs?”

A police spokeswoman said officers were trying to track down the owners of the two pets.

She said: “Officers were called at 8.57am on Monday to Lutterworth Road, Ullesthorpe, following a report that a number of sheep and lambs were being attacked by two alsatian dogs in a field. At least three sheep were reported to have been killed in the incident.

“One of the dogs was also reported to have died at the scene. The second dog left the scene. “The deceased dog had a chip and has been taken to the vets and inquiries are being carried out to locate the dog’s owner.

“Inquiries remain ongoing into the incident.”

In a later update she said: “The second dog has since been reported to have also died at the scene.

“The dog will also be taken to the vets and inquiries are continuing to locate the dog’s owner.”

Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, if a dog worries sheep on agricultural land, the person in charge of the dog is guilty of an offence.

Anyone with information that can help the police with their investigation is urged to contact officers using the 101 number, or through the force’s website.

At least three sheep were reportedly killed in the incident. Both dogs also died at the scene
