A RARE agricultural vehicle has been stolen from a farm near Hinckley, police have reported.

An orange and black Kioti MEC 2210 4x4, registration AE13 AZA, was taken from the property in Coventry Road, Sapcote, between 6pm on Friday, March 26 and 10.30am the next day.

An intruder forced open the farm’s locked gate as well as two outbuildings.

The vehicle is similar in appearance to a golf buggy.

Police say it is distinctive because it has a windscreen and a two-seat cabin, as well as a black metal mesh to the rear of the cab and an uncovered cargo bay at the back.

An Ifor Williams trailer, which is 8ft by 5ft, was also stolen.

Pc Allan Charles said: “This is a rare vehicle and should be easily identified. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle and the trailer or anyone who may have seen these or similar models for sale.”

Last year, Leicestershire Police created a team dedicated to tackling rural crimes and issues such as flytipping, poaching, hare-coursing and theft.

Like all special constables, the Rural Specials Team have full policing powers and uniform but are not paid.

The team is led by Special Sergeant Leigh Moore, who works to support the farmers of England and Wales in his full-time job with the National Farmers Union (NFU). He told the Mercury in November: “Rural crime is on the increase nationally, with emerging trends occurring all the time.

“Having a team of like-minded individuals to support our regular colleagues allows us to be in more places more of the time, and that can only be a great thing.”

Anyone with information about the Sapcote theft is asked to contact Leicestershire Police on 101.
