Boozing youths found and made to pick up litter

A GROUP of teenagers who tried to run away from police after they were found boozing in public were told to spend time picking up litter to make up for the trouble they had caused.

Police were on patrol at the railway station in Hinckley when they became aware of the small group of friends, who tried to flee when they saw the officers heading their way.

However, they were located a short distance away on a footpath which runs parallel to the railway line.

Their carrier bag of booze had split, with bottles smashing on to the ground.

The youths’ names and addresses were recorded and they were taken home to their parents.

Police were also informed that one of the teenagers had run across the railway line.

The officers used community resolution to teach the group a lesson.

They said: “Not only is trespassing on the railway a criminal offence, it is also a very dangerous and stupid thing to do.

“As a result of their activities, today they have given something back to the community and have been litterpicking along the footpath which runs alongside the train line, along with the park off Bridge Road, Burbage.

“They have collected two bin liners of rubbish between them.”

The town’s officers have dealt with a number of instances of anti-social behaviour involving young people in the past few days.

Last week, a group of yobs smashed a police car’s wing mirror and climbed on to its roof after a large group of young people was dispersed from a Hinckley park.

Officers were called to Clarendon Park, where a big group of youths breaching rules allowing up to six people to meet, had congregated in the warm weather, on Wednesday, March 31.

Crime scene investigators were able to recover fingerprints from the police car.
