A SHOCKED RITA OPENS HER HOME AND HER HEART AS SHARON SETS FOOT ON THE COBBLES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MORE THAN 20 YEARS

-

CORRIE resident Rita Tanner gets the shock of her life when her foster daughter returns to the cobbles, this week, after 22 years.

Actress Tracie Bennett, 59, shot to fame as Sharon Bentley in the ’80s and ’90s and was last seen in Weatherfield in 1999 when she fell out with Rita after she tried to sell the Kabin her foster mother had given to her.

Tracie, now a West End star who has won two Olivier Awards and was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Judy Garland in End of the Rainbow on Broadway, first starred in the soap 39 years ago as a teen, and said: “I am thrilled to be returning to the cobbles.

“It is a dream come true for me, I had such an amazing time there.

“I am looking forward to getting my teeth into the storylines they have planned for Sharon.”

Sharon turns up because she has nominated Rita for a Golden Heart award in recognition of her fostering skills; she also says she wants to make amends after treating her badly in the past. Jenny, however, isn’t thrilled to see her and convinces Gemma she can’t be trusted. Rita tries to get all three of them to call a truce over a meal before invittroubled ing a seemingly lonely Sharon to stay for a few weeks.

Also this week Faye ends her relationship with Craig, unwilling to let him ruin his career for her. She and Gary then attend court, where he’s convicted of perverting the course of justice but allowed to walk free.

Faye, however, might not get away so lightly...

A fragile Peter returns home from hospital and doesn’t feel overly optimistic about his chances of receiving a transplant, while Tyrone and Fiz’s relationship finally comes to an end.
