Pack up your old Toolbox, we’re on the move

-

AN independent hardware store is moving to a new store five times bigger than its old one.

The family-run Ashby Toolbox was launched 30 years ago in Nuneaton, but now is set to fill a huge vacant unit in Ashby.

Following a five-year stint on Coxons Mews, staff are preparing for an upgrade to the vacant Peacocks building on Market Street, which has been empty since the chain store shut months ago.

Confirming the move, managers said they had “loved our last five years on Coxons Mews” but had now “genuinely run out of space!”.

The manager of the business, Tom Colclough, said: “It’s a very exciting time for all involved.

“During our five years in the town, we have really listened to what our customers want from the Toolbox and have adapted to suit their needs as much as we can.

“It’s definitely the right time to move forward, not only for the benefit of our customers but for Ashby’s high street.

“It will take time to grow into such a big space while keeping the traditional Toolbox feel, but it will allow us to stock a much larger range for the home and garden long term.”

After an uncertain time for retailers, he added: “It’s a huge leap but the ethos and commitment will remain the same - Toolbox will continue to offer an unrivalled customer service together with a vast product choice.

“We have tried several times to acquire larger premises on Ashby’s Market Street, but landlords always opted for bigger chain stores as their preference.

“I think the current climate has contributed to the successful bid for the old Peacocks store on this occasion and we look forward to a positive future in Ashby.

“We are making a considerable investment to allow us to maximise our existing service and sales as well as concentrating on longer term business development plans.

“Ashby Toolbox has an exciting future ahead, and we look forward to welcoming customers old and new to our flagship store.”
