Three are in hospital after car crashes into lamppost
TEENAGER HAS LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES WHILE WOMAN IS HELD ON SUSPICION OF DRINK-DRIVING
TWO teenagers and a man are in hospital – one with life-threatening injuries – after a car hit a lamppost.
A 17-year-old is being treated for life-threatening injuries in University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire, along with an 18-year-old woman and 29-year-old man, after the crash on the A47 in Hinckley yesterday morning.
An 18-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Police are now asking witnesses who might have seen the car – a blue Honda – ahead of the collision to come forward.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Dodwells Road after 3am, where three occupants had to be “ejected” from a car by fire and rescue crews.
The A47 and A5 were closed throughout the early hours and into the rush-hour period.
Officers reopened the A5 shortly before 8am but a stretch of the A47 was still closed, more than six hours later, as inquiries continued.
Detective Constable Kasie Carter, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the blue Honda prior to it happening.
“The collision occurred close to an industrial estate and I would like to speak to any motorists who were in the area at the time, including lorry drivers, with dashcams installed in their vehicles.
“Anything you are able to provide could help our investigation.”
