Jabs to be available at new pop-up clinic
PEOPLE living in South Wigston and surrounding areas are being encouraged to get the Covid-19 vaccine at a new pop-up clinic.
The clinic, taking place this week, was set up by local NHS bosses after it was identified that uptake in the area had been lower than elsewhere.
It will be the first clinic of its kind in the area, and will be offering doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
From tomorrow until Saturday, those eligible for the vaccine can get them at South Wigston Campus of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, in Blaby Road, between 11am and 7pm.
Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups, which commission healthcare services, say people of all ages can attend, including 16 and 17-year-olds.
Dr Ravi Sahdev, GP at Central Wigston Surgery and clinical lead for the pop-up clinic, said: “This is the first time that we’ve held drop-in clinics in South Wigston.
“Previously, if your GP practice wasn’t giving the vaccine, your only other option locally was to go to The Kube at Leicester Racecourse.
“As a result, the vaccine take-up here hasn’t been as high as some other places, and we want to put this right. We’ll be giving both first and second doses of the vaccine, and we’re encouraging eligible people of all ages, families and college students, to come along this week and get the life-saving vaccine.”
