Firsts beat Cambridgeshire – but no such luck for the seconds
THERE were mixed fortunes again for Leicestershire and Rutland county first and second team golfers in their Anglian League matches.
They both played Cambridgeshire – the firsts were at The Leicestershire GC and won 7.5-4.5 but the seconds lost away at Newmarket Links 7-5.
The firsts trailed 3-1 after the opening foursomes, but came back strongly to take the singles 6-1, with one game halved.
County captain James Billingham (Cosby) and his predecessor in this post Martin Anderson (Kibworth) were both maximum points scorers.
They combined to win the anchor foursomes and both also won their singles clashes. There were also singles successes for Chris Brook (Hinckley), Luke Burrows (Cosby), Oliver Lewis (Kibworth) and Scott Wormleighton (Birstall), while Steve Sansome (Birstall) halved his game.
In their foursomes, the seconds lost 3-0, one halved, won the singles 4-3, one halved, but could not do enough to overcome their foursomes defeat to take the overall points.
