A TEENAGER has been arrested on the suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at a house in the city.

Police were called to a house in Lincoln Street, Highfields, at around 6pm on Saturday and found the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Numerous roads were closed for several hours in the area, which is off London Road and close to Leicester Railway Station, while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

Police said the arrested 18-yearold man, who is from Leicester, “made himself known” to officers in Peterborough yesterday morning.

He was detained, and was due to be transported back to Leicestershire for questioning yesterday.

Detective Inspector Kenny Henry, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said yesterday: “A man made himself known to police in Peterborough this morning and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“Our inquiries are still in their early stages.”

The investigation comes just days after the death of 18-year-old Abdirahim Mohamed, who was fatally stabbed “just around the corner” from the latest incident, on Wednesday night.

However, Det Insp Henry said: “I would like to reiterate to the local community that there is nothing to suggest the woman’s death is linked to another incident in the same area earlier in the week.”

Neighbours near to the address of the latest incident said they were “in shock” when they heard what had happened. A man who has lived in Lincoln Street for 40 years told the Mercury: “I don’t know the woman but I’m in shock.

“The road was blocked off last night and then the police said a woman had died and it was being treated as murder.”

Another neighbour, a 62-year-old man, said: “We were horrified when we heard a woman was dead and the police said later in the night it was a murder.

“The young boy, Abdirahim, died only a couple of days ago around the corner from here and now this terrible news.

“I have lived in this area a long time and we have seen some tragedies over the years.”

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, unusual or untoward in Lincoln Street yesterday afternoon and who has not yet come forward. “Any information you have could help my investigation,” said Det Insp Henry. Closures were in place in Lincoln Street, Andover Street, College Street and Hobart Street. London Road remained open. You can pass on information by calling 101 and quoting incident 515 of 11 September.
