A FAMILY-RUN hardware store has come up with a quirky way of moving stock as it prepares to relocate to its new premises – a human chain between the two premises.

Ashby Toolbox has traded in Coxons Mews, a side street in the town for over five years, and is now getting ready for an expansion to a store five times its size, 330 yards away on Ashby’s high street.

Staff are preparing for an upgrade to the vacant Peacocks building in Market Street, which has been empty since the store shut months ago.

Since it announced the move in July, more than 1,000 customers have taken to social media to share their support, with many offering help with the transfer of stock.

Store assistant Tina Bax came up with the novel idea of hosting a “massive conga line” in the town were people will form a 300-metre line to transport the store items, hand by hand.

More than 20,000 products need to be shifted from the old store to the new one, which will be done by a chain of people along a route through the town.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 2, starting at 12.30pm and Tina hopes it will prove to be an memorable event for the town.

She said: “The idea just came to me one day after we received so much support from people on our Facebook post since we announced the move.

“So many people were contacting us and coming in the store asking if they could help us so we decided to arrange this massive conga line event.”

On the day, there will be people and staff members dressed up as cheerleaders, calling themselves the Toolbox Troupe and using traditional mop heads as pom-poms to cheer on the crowd.

Tina said: “We are overwhelmed by the response we’ve received and we invite anybody and everybody to come along and join in.

“Bring the dog, bring the kids and bring Granny.

“All are welcome as we make our big move!”
