Two robbers sought over raid at city bookmakers

PAIR THREATEN CASHIER AND RUN OFF WITH SUM OF MONEY

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at bookmakers.

Two men are reported to have approached the BetFred branch in Sturdee Road, Eyres Monsell, just after 9pm on Wednesday, where they threatened a man inside before stealing an amount of cash.

The robbers are believed to have fled on foot in the direction of Hillsborou­gh Road.

The victim is not reported to have suffered any serious injuries.

Police said in a statement: “From initial inquiries, the suspects are both described as white men, about 5ft 9in tall and of skinny build.

“One of the suspects is believed to be in his 20s and was wearing a black tracksuit, a dark face covering and white latex gloves. He was described as having a local accent.

“The second suspect was reported to be wearing a grey tracksuit and was carrying a red carrier bag.

“Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who has any informatio­n in relation to the incident to make contact.

“The incident happened just after 9pm, when surroundin­g shops were still open and people will have been in the area and passing by.

“Please think back to if you were in the area yesterday evening and anything you may have seen or heard which could assist our inquiries.

“Did you witness the incident? Did you see two men in the area of Sturdee Road or Hillsborou­gh Road matching the above descriptio­n?

“Do you have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area during the evening that may help our investigat­ion?”
