Albrighton: We’re not meeting high expectations

EXPECTATIONS have risen at Leicester City and the club are failing to hit those right now, says Marc Albrighton.

City have three losses and two wins from their opening five Premier League games, and lost a two-goal advantage in their Europa League draw with Napoli.

Their last win was against Norwich City on August 28 and they have failed to keep a clean sheet since the opening day of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It is a poor run of form that Albrighton and his team-mates recognise, and they know what they must do to put things right.

“We’d like more points on the board, but it’s not to be and we’ve just got to keep plugging away and take it back to basics and hard work. I’m sure the wins will come,” Albrighton, right, told Sky Sports.

“It’s a long season. Every team will have these sticky patches so we’ve just got to get ours out of the way and go on and win some games.”

Expectations on Leicester City have increased tenfold after winning the FA Cup last season and spending more time in the top four than any other club over the last two seasons. The squad are aware of these higher expectations and know they need to work hard to live up to them.

Albrighton added: “I’m sure the expectations have gone up.

“They’ve gone up in the seven years I’ve been here, definitely.

“I’m sure over the last couple of years they’ve gone up even more and that’s from us doing what we’ve done in the last couple of years. We can only be proud of that.

“But as expectations go, we obviously need to fulfil them and it’s something that we will do with hard work and (going) back to basics.”
