PLAYER RATINGS

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: Spent the afternoon being booed by Brighton fans for his complaints over the penalty, but had little to do beyond that, despite conceding Welbeck’s header. 6/10

RICARDO PEREIRA: One of the few players who came out of the first half with credit as he battled at the back and showed urgency in attack. In the second half, his combination play with Lookman was excellent 7/10

CAGLAR SOYUNCU: Again looked more comfortable next to Vestergaard and the individual errors have been cut out, while he seemed to do the basics well enough. But he was dragged around a bit as part of City’s dishevelled first half back-line 5/10

JANNIK VESTERGAARD: Set up one Brighton chance with a poor clearance and was caught out when he had to track back. He did not look comfortable pressing the game, with Brighton routinely flicking the ball around him. Lost a few headers as well, which was unexpected 4/10

RYAN BERTRAND: Conceded free-kick for the second goal and looked out of position on occasion, but also covered for his teammates at other times. City looked better going forward when Castagne came on 5/10

WILFRED NDIDI: When City were in the ascendancy at the end, he did a very good job of keeping the pressure on. Before that, he was chasing back past his defenders to cover the gaps they were leaving 6/10

BOUBAKARY SOUMARE: Looked lost early on, but when he did get involved, he showed a few nice touches. In the second half, he spread play well, and had one surge through midfield that seemed to spark the fightback. 6/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: In the first half, his riskier passes didn’t come off and put City on the back foot. But he ran the show in the second half, playing lots of fine forward balls and delivering an exquisite pass for Vardy’s goal 6/10

JAMES MADDISON: Did not look at home on the right-hand side, but even when he came inside, he looked laboured. A few nice flicks here and there, but it wasn’t a surprise he was dragged off at half-time 4/10

JAMIE VARDY: One of those games where he was isolated and not often involved. When City were on the front foot, Brighton dropped deep and closed him out. But he still had that goalscorer’s instinct to get his 150th for the club 6/10

HARVEY BARNES: Barely involved early on, but when City were on the attack, he looked really dangerous. But he was offside for the two disallowed goals. Should he have learned after the first one? 5/10

SUBSTITUTES

ADEMOLA LOOKMAN: Linked superbly with Ricardo, made fine runs into the box, and danced around defenders. Everything time he received the ball, City looked more likely to score 8/10

TIMOTHY CASTAGNE: City looked more of a threat on the left when he came on and he ensured Barnes saw more of the ball

KELECHI IHEANACHO: Unlike his recent substitute appearances, didn’t affect the game 5/10
