We got a bit lucky, admits Potter

-

BRIGHTON and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has admitted that his side “had a bit of luck” in the 2-1 win over Leicester City, writes Amie Wilson.

The Seagulls earned all three points at the AMEX Stadium thanks to goals from Neal Maupay and Danny Welbeck.

But the main talking points from were three on-the-field decisions that were not overturned by VAR.

Brighton’s first goal came from a penalty awarded after Jannick Vestergaard was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box, despite appearing to have been fouled in the process.

After Jamie Vardy’s second half goal, City thought they had equalised on two separate occasions, only for the offside flag to cut short their celebrations with Harvey Barnes twice adjudged to be offside and interfering with play.

Brendan Rodgers spoke out about his frustrations at the decisions after the match.

While Potter, above, said he hadn’t seen a replay of the incidents, he admitted that the Seagulls may have got a bit of luck in the closing stages.

“There were times the margins didn’t go our way last year,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“I thought Leicester responded well and showed their quality.

“You need to survive those moments and I thought we did well enough to get the 2-0 lead and maybe earned that luck in the latter stages of the game.”

“Instinctively I thought it looked like a penalty,” Potter said of the first half incident.

“The offside ones felt tight to me, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were tight.

“I’m sure there will be a time when it goes against us, but we know we have had a bit of luck to get the three points.”
