WE’RE UP FOR CUP!

Lookman set for first start

-

ADEMOLA Lookman is in line to make his first Leicester City start at Millwall tonight as the club go in search of Carabao Cup glory, writes Jordan Blackwell.

Winger Lookman was “outstanding” in his appearance off the bench at Brighton, manager Brendan Rodgers has said, and he is set to be given another opportunity to shine at The Den, where City’s League Cup campaign begins.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for Lookman, right, signed on loan on deadline day from German side RB Leipzig, who grew up around the corner from The Den, in Peckham, south-east London.

He will likely be one of a few players brought into the starting line-up, with Rodgers set to rotate considerably.

In assessing Lookman’s display at Brighton, where his introduction sparked a muchimproved performance, Rodgers said: “I thought he was outstanding. He gave us exactly what we needed playing inside, being able to come wide, combining with

Ricky (Pereira).

“Just his cleverness and brightness in the game was so good.

“I was pleased with that. It’s a case of Ade coming in, getting used to how we work, how we play, and game on game he’s starting to make that impact. He’s certainly one we would consider to start during the week.

“We want to do well in the cup competitions. We reached the semi-finals in our first full season working together (losing to Aston Villa) and we want to do well this season.

“It’s an opportunity for me to have a look at players and give them some game-time.

“I’ve got players who have been training so well and working so hard, but make no mistake it’s a competition we would like to do well in.”

Pleasingly for City fans, Lookman himself says supporters have not yet seen the full extent of his talents.

“I think they’ve seen glimpses, I think there’s still more to come from me,” he told LCFC TV.

“There’s still a lot more to my game, obviously with the minutes I’ve got now I’ll just keep building and keep on working hard during training and keep on progressing hopefully.

“I feel good, getting stronger every single day and that’s most important.”
