Deliveries being hit by delays in borough

-

CONCERNS have been raised about delays for people receiving their post in one part of the county.

Residents in Hinckley and Burbage have reported not getting their post at all for several days, while others have experienced delays in parcels and other items arriving over the past few weeks.

One man, from Coventry Road in Burbage, said that over the past two weeks he has received post at different times of the day, and none at all on many days.

He said: “The people of Hinckley and Burbage deserve better from Royal Mail, especially with the ever increasing costs of mailing items.

“I have also voiced my concerns, by telephone, to the Royal Mail Business Helpline, but seemingly to little avail.

“Apart from delayed mail for myself, I am hearing of other residents who have not received mail that is time-critical, for example a birthday card ordered online in plenty of time, which has still not arrived and far more importantly in the current climate, Covid testing kits, ordered by a dental nurse.”

The resident said he understood that a new system had been brought in at the Hinckley depot, which was causing some difficulties with deliveries.

He also spoke out in support of the postmen and women who do the rounds in the area.

He said: “I have always found the staff at Hinckley sorting office to be nothing but efficient, cheerful and extremely helpful.

“I am sure that they are doing their very best to make this new system which has been imposed upon them work.

“But, plainly it is most definitely not working and does not appear to be getting any better.”

The Mercury has contacted Royal Mail for comment, but had not heard back by the time we went to press.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough councillor Ann Pendlebury has been contacted by residents about the issue, and has also tried to get answers from Royal Mail.

She said: “We are very proud of Royal Mail and the hard work they did and continue to do delivering throughout the lockdown, keeping people in touch and businesses working around Hinckley.

“There now appears to be an issue whether through sickness, short staffing or something else and local people are wanting to know when the issues are likely to be resolved.

“I have yet to hear back but I’m sure they will be in touch soon.”
