TIGERS PLAYER RATINGS v GLOUCESTER

- By Ethan Clamp and Bobby Bridge

FREDDIE STEWARD: Started with another towering high ball take and made six more, although the young full-back misjudged a couple of wellplaced Gloucester kicks. Did just enough to stop Tom Seabrook from walking in for a try, a desire that epitomised this Leicester side 7/10

HARRY POTTER: A relatively quiet first half for the winger, but the second half was when the Australian came to life. He showed outstanding pace, physicality, and balance to somehow get over the line for his try. Was fingertips away from scoring a second but for an unlucky bounce of the ball. Only three players on the pitch made more than 50 metres with ball in hand, and no-one got close to his total of 105. Potter is becoming undroppable 8/10

MATT SCOTT: The Scotsman made a fantastic covering tackle to stop a certain try in the first half but made a poor pass when the gap opened on the wing on the attack. Against one of his former clubs, the centre had fantastic awareness to go for a tap-and-go penalty, spotting the space out wide which resulted in the Genge try 7/10

DAN KELLY: Made some lovely pop passes to put other players in space. The 20-year-old came out of the line multiple times to shut down the Gloucester attacks. But was at fault for the Mark Atkinson try, over committing to the outside man and leaving the gap inside him. His biggest impact came at the death with a thumping hit on Kirill Gotovsev, stopping the momentum of the Gloucester attack when they looked close to scoring 7/10

NEMANI NADOLO: Another eye-catching performance from the Fijian winger. Nemani only played the 50 minutes but made his presence well known. Got himself involved early with a solid carry off a lineout. Made one spectacular run from his own 22, showing a good turn of pace then brushing past and barging over defenders.

GEORGE FORD: Solidified Tigers’ good early start with a couple of penalties from the tee. Showed great vision multiple times to run it

deep from inside Tigers own 22. His kicking from hand, bar one which went dead, caused no end of problems for Gloucester, and his penalty kick to the corner from nearly 50 metres out landed inches inside the corner flag providing the platform for the Dolly try 7.5/10

JACK VAN POORTVLIET: On the new 4G firmer surface at Kingsholm, his selection made a lot of sense. He brought a lot of speed around the base, not allowing the Gloucester defence to set. Slotted a nice kick behind the defence, causing serious trouble and made a lovely dart down the blindside that set up the Harry Wells try 8/10

ELLIS GENGE (C): Seven tries in his last 10 games for club and country is some return for a loosehead prop whose setpiece work doesn’t suffer as a consequence of his attacking contributions. He made one lovely carry off a Steward offload, sidestepping his way past Kyle Moyle and his appetite in defence was shown to all, with outstanding line speed 8/10

NIC DOLLY: It’s not been a bad start to the 22-year-old’s Premiership season, with two games and three tries. The hooker had great awareness to grab onto a loose ball at lineout time within the Tigers’ 22. Finished off his try very well off the back of the rolling maul. The England and Australian qualified hooker will be very happy with his evening’s work before the watching Eddie Jones 9/10

DAN COLE: The veteran prop was so close to adding to his three Premiership tries, just getting held up over the line. Was solid at scrum time and again his kick chase was excellent. But he did concede a couple of penalties 7/10

HARRY WELLS: Showed good awareness to dot the ball down for his try which got Tigers off to a great start. Again the recently capped England international led the way in defence with a high tackle count of 12 7.5/10

ELI SNYMAN: With Calum Green onto the bench it was Snyman’s role to receive the kick-offs which he did well under some serious pressure. The Zimbabwean made one crucial lineout steal when the Tigers were inside their own 22 that eventually led to the Genge try 7/10

GEORGE MARTIN: The 20-year-old international saw less of the ball in hand than last week but still put in a fine performance, with a few huge hits along the way. The backrower was penalised for tackling the wrong man, the subsequent lineout eventually leading to Ruan Ackerman’s try 7/10

TOMMY REFFELL: The second Tigers try will be credited to Genge but it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the work of the openside. Nobody on the pitch topped his tackle count of 15. With the clock in the red and a Gloucester maul trundling its way towards the line, he was pivotal in sacking it inches from the line. Seeing Reffell with his chest puffed out and the ball tucked under his arm is becoming a familiar sight, he is Tigers’ silent assassin. 9/10

HANRO LIEBENBERG: Another solid performance from the South African vice captain, made his tackles, ran hard in the carry, while taking multiple lineouts. The only blip was a first-half knock-on when deep into the Gloucester 22 7/10

REPLACEMENTS

FRANCOIS VAN WYK 6/10, JOE HEYES 7/10, CALUM GREEN 6.5/10, OLLIE CHESSUM 6/10, BEN YOUNGS 6.5/10, GUY PORTER 6/10
