Shooting ourselves in the foot – Castagne
LEICESTER City are “shooting themselves in the foot” with their current performances, an honest Timothy Castagne said following the 2-2 draw with Burnley.
City had to come from behind twice to earn a point against the winless Clarets, and are now without victory in their last three Premier League outings.
Castagne came on at the break, with City trailing 2-1, and helped his team rescue a point, with Jamie Vardy grabbing an equaliser late on.
But those late shows of character are not good enough for a team with expectations as high as City’s, the Belgian full-back said.
They have to start better and play better so they can start picking up more points.
Castagne told LCFC TV: “We have to do better.
“We can’t give them easy chances and goals like that.
“We have to be tougher. It’s not easy, the Prem, but I think we’ve been shooting ourselves in the foot the last few weeks, so we have to get back to our form.
“It’s definitely two points lost. We have the same ambitions as last year.
“We want the three points against every team. And today, especially at home, we have to do a lot better.
“We’ll work on that. We need to find our form again and maybe get some wins in a row, and then we’ll get going. It has to be better.
“We’ve seen glimpses (in the attacking play), but it’s not like last season. We have a lot of things to work on.
“We created some chances, but I’m kind of difficult so I’m never satisfied, and I think the whole team can’t be satisfied with that.
“Every week we’re saying we have character and we’re coming back from 1-0 down and things like that, but we have to be smarter and not go down.
“We have to start straight in the game. We have character, that’s for sure, but we want points as well.”
It was the second straight Premier League game in which Castagne has come off the bench and made a positive impact.
He was involved going forward against Brighton and Burnley, while he ensured Chris Wood’s late header was ruled out for offside by stepping forward just in time.
Castagne added: “It’s never easy to come into this kind of game, but as a footballer you want to play, so it doesn’t matter when you come in, you want to help the team.
“I tried to do my best but it wasn’t enough.”
