A further 137 homes to be added to village
NEARLY 140 new homes will be added to a village being built in Leicestershire after council members voted to approve the plans.
Phase one of the award-winning housing development New Lubbesthorpe, to the north of the older hamlet of Lubbesthorpe, in Blaby district, will be completed with the addition of the 137 new homes.
The plans were voted on by Blaby district councillors at a planning meeting last week, with council officers advising the plans be granted conditional approval. Councillors followed the recommendation and gave the goahead.
The dwellings will be built to the north-west of the current development, with a green space, known as Brook Park, being maintained for public use between the new development and the already approved houses to the south of it.
There is also an ongoing development site to the east of the land where more homes are being constructed.
Concerns had been put forward by neighbouring residents who are worried about the increase in traffic and the loss of light, particularly as the plans include a number of three-storey homes. However, Leicestershire County Council’s highway’s department said there would not be any significant impact on the roads around the site.
Additionally, officers said, due to the park area between the proposed site and the houses to the north, the new houses should not block light to the existing properties.
The proposed development, to be undertaken by David Wilson Homes, will include 27 “affordable” homes, 11 two-bedroomed bungalows, two of which would be classed as “affordable”, and a mix of one, two, three and fourbed houses.
The New Lubbesthorpe development has been recognised nationally for its excellence. Most recently, it won the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) national award for Excellence in Planning to Deliver Homes in 2020.
Now the plans have been approved, landscaping on the site will have to be completed within one year.
